Main Offender
So, here’s the thing: I never get offended. Ever. I’m laid back about a lot of subjects and don’t take myself seriously at all. I’ll joke about my ethnicity, poke fun at other stereotypes, and lightheartedly tease people about anything and everything.
Everything is GREAT!
Of the two following statements, which one sounds more encouraging and gives you bigger warm fuzzies? You’re doing a good job! Or… You’re doing a great job! It’s amazing what a difference one word can make, right?
What Am I Doing? [8.29]
I totally rocked this weekend like a hurricane. (Too soon?) Considering Irene didn’t do much damage in the places I was over the weekend, I was very thankful that there was minimal damage. However, one of my friends ended up having his house flooded with a foot of water in one of the houses he [...]
What Am I Doing? [8.22]
There are some things in life more important than making money and making money and making money. As much as I love working and can be a bit of a workaholic, I also know full well how to enjoy my free time and spend it with the people I care about all proper dopper like. [...]
What Am I Doing? [8.9]
I’m not quite sure how to put this, but I’m going to try my best to explain this anyway, so bear with me.
Lithium
“Man, you’re a completely positive person! Do you know that? It’s, like, overly positive.” I had no idea what she was talking about. All my life, I have considered myself more along the lines of a “realist” – the down-to-earth moderate viewpoint as opposed to the polar ends of the spectrum, being “optimistic” and “pessimistic”. [...]
Good Artists Copy; Great Artists Steal
I don’t think I do anything special. Snap a photo here, over-process it into oblivion there, and call it “art”. How original is that? Well, by describing my work in such a vague and generalized tone, sure. I’m weak sauce. However, looking at a broader spectrum of iPhoneography out there – nay, photography, in general [...]
What Am I Doing? [6.27]
Is it possible to be too happy to write a blog post? Because that definitely was the reason why I only had three blog posts halfway written and never completed. I blame it on being happy. God damn happiness.
What Am I Doing? [6.20]
“I still haven’t gotten used to it,” I told my friend as she and I were walking around Washington, DC, and sipping on our coffees. “After a year and a half from quitting my job in the food business, I am still not used to calling myself a ‘photographer’.” One morning, I walked into a [...]
What Am I Doing? [6.13]
I’m still in Wisconsin, and while I miss certain aspects of my Washington, DC life, being with my good friend and his family – plus shooting a wedding again – has been a very nice distraction from my every day life. While I still believe I’m a city slicker through and through, it’s been refreshing [...]
Happy Birthday, Mom! (And I Blame You For Everything)
I completely blame my mother. Honestly, it’s her fault for a lot of things in my life and the way I am. You could blame Zodiac signs, the alignment of the stars and planets, the city I was born in – as well as the one I was raised in, but you’d be wrong. The [...]
A Conversation with Adam Assoian (Part 2)
Previously, I posted a conversation that biz partner, Andrew Markowitz, and I were having through e-mails, and then I posted Part 2 because we kept going. Then, I got involved in a conversation with New Jersey-based concert photographer Adam Assoian, and we kept going. Therefore, and even though we failed to execute our plan to [...]
What Am I Doing? [4.11]
They say it’s your birthday It’s my birthday, too, yeah! Here I am, another year older (well, technically, another day older – I’ve been getting older one day at a time since the beginning, right?). Twenty seven. Doesn’t seem like a significant mile marker by any means, since it’s not that round of a number [...]
The Road To Where?
I’m lying in bed last night, wondering what the fuck I’m doing. Across from my bed rests part of a Starbucks apron, framed and the words “Providence Will Miss You” surrounding it. Glowing from my television is an episode of Scrubs, and I watch the characters gather happily at the end of the episode like [...]
A Conversation with Adam Assoian (Part 1?)
I’m a Chatty Cathy – there’s no denying that. So when I get really worked up about something, or find a subject that intrigues me, it’s even more difficult to get me to shut up. Fortunately for me, I have found another Chatty Cathy in Adam Assoian, a concert photographer from New Jersey. Now, I’m [...]
What Am I Doing? [4.5]
I don’t know if you’re aware, but I absolutely DESPISE the cherry blossoms. Maybe I wasn’t clear last week, but to refresh your memory: I HATE THE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL! The flock of tourists, the hobbyists capturing pictures of the Jefferson Memorial conveniently being framed by the branches of the trees, and the fact that [...]
What Am I Doing? [3.28]
I have a love/hate relationship with the beginnings of spring, and if you know me as a person at all, you’re highly shocked that I love anything about the spring at all. I get really bad allergies, bugs and gnats start popping up all over the place, and the tourists return to DC to flood [...]
The $20,000 Question
Would you like to work with me one-on-one? Excellent! That’ll be $20,000, please.
What Am I Doing? [3.22]
I’m eating coconut macaroons, sipping on some Caribou coffee, listening to the new Strokes album (and LOVING IT) and working on photos from my previous day’s photo shoot at Tranquil Space with the wonderfully delightful Kimberly Wilson. Amongst all of this, I thought to myself, “Self, you’re sitting here doing something you absolutely love to [...]
What Photographers Say To Each Other In E-Mail Form
Yesterday, I brought up that Andrew and I had a conversation on a variety of subjects. I wanted to bring up the lack of originality and how nothing is new in the post, but then Andrew starts invading my twitter stream with other things we talked about that night. So, we got the idea to [...]
Nothing Is New
“Are you kidding me? I thought the concert was TODAY, not TOMORROW!” I was supposed to meet up with Andrew to see Tim Reynolds as he shot the band at State Theater in Falls Church. Well, that was the original plan. However, a little SNAFU meant he and I were catching up and drinking at [...]
Role Reversal – What It’s Like Being Photographed
As you may recall, Andrew and I had a photography session with Alicia Griffin last Sunday, and the entire time, I was thinking, “this would be great to blog about!” Ok, I was actually thinking, “I must look like an IDIOT!” Nonetheless, I did feel like I should share my experience being on the flip [...]
