Thanks, coach!

I think it's an amazing experience to witness first-hand athletes taking on these challenges, many for the first time! I remember being at the wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball exhibitions at the Pentagon in November and December and recount the number of athletes who were participating in these sports for the first time. Hell, that's where I met Cpl. Dylan Kelly, who had never played sitting volleyball before that day! Watching him crush it at the Warrior Games is further proof that these games go beyond the medals - it's about the experience. I'm hoping next year's games see even more results like this, since THAT is what they're all about!

Plus, I'm pulling for you and Billy to annihilate Army next year! ;)

Well said Patrick! I'm all for keeping these game for the people that will be introduced to sport for the 1st time. It's nice to have a few veterans involved, but they have the "Endevour Games" and the "Veteran Games" to compete in. This should be a chance for the people that are transitioning from active duty to be a part of a global event. I tend to agree about the way the Army is going about things... it would be very inspiring to see new people have a chance to experience the healing that takes place when you get a chance to compete for the 1st time. For example, the Marine's basketball team had 1 veteran and only one other person that were at the games before. The other eight people I had the priviledge to train had never played before! Think how rewarding to me to here them speak of joining community teams and knowing that they were inspired by Billy and myself. Nice job! p.s. I'm the guy that kept calling you "intern".

Thanks, Pat! It was definitely great shooting alongside you during these games and hopefully USOC gets their act together and can learn how to coexist with the media who simply want to showcase the amazing abilities these warriors have to offer. We'll see how things shake out for next year's games...

Patrick, that was awesomely(?) writted. I wanted to write something too but figured I had better wait until things settle down. Thank you for being a voice. As far as I am concerned, that was USOC's swan song to us and I can only see biger and better things happenbing for the games. on a side note you have the heart and spirit to be an honorary Marine and I look so forward to having an opportunity to work with you again in the future. (Ignore any mispells, you know I can't write well.)

I took a few test shots while I was out doing the winery tours this past weekend, but like an idiot, I forgot to bring the memory card with me to work on while I was in Quantico today! So, no post-processing from me today. Perhaps on Friday... (like how I turned my booboo into a teaser for a future blog post? It's like I should be a marketing strategist or something!)

Happy birthday. I just turned 30 and was having a lot of the same anxieties. I recently took the plunge and left my 9 to 5 career to pursue freelance web development and like you said, I now get to live "MY life by MY rules and on MY terms" and to me that is worth more than any cushy 9 to 5 job that makes you feel stuck and limits your potential. Keep at it, and holla at me sometime on twitter (@apetross) if you ever want to grab a drink in DC. I could use a good photographer for some of my upcoming projects.

I really identify with your thoughts on fear of failure. It's really tough to push yourself outside that comfort zone and take the risks.

If you fail, you gotta pick yourself up and swing again!

Thanks, Colleen! It was so great to catch up with him, meet you, and get to ask the questions I've always been curious about, now that I've pursued photography more head-on. And interestingly enough, he used the "hey, you want to model for me?" line on me when we first met, too. Hmm...

Next week's episode will be extra special, too! I'm already looking forward to it!

Can't wait for us to meet up again!

Great interview! I really liked the interview questions, and where you were heading with your questioning. I also love that your conversation is recorded, and that you are introducing Rich's artwork to more people. Disclaimer: I am Rich's fiance so I might be biased... :). Photography is also what brought Rich and me together originally, so his artwork will always be special to me. (Rich's former favorite pick in line, "Hey, you want to model for me?")

Crap, I was excited for a good rant. Instead it was more of what you are going to do and how clever you are to use your podcasts to your benefit. Nothing wrong with that, just really wanted a rant.

[...] Take my conversation with Nakeva earlier this week, for example. She and I both left our steady paychecks to pursue our dreams of making a career in photography, and we’re both off to a great start. However, something inside me felt a little stagnant, so to talk to somebody who is in the same boat I am in and to hear they’re doing well gives me the motivation to continue fighting the good fight.
Thanks, Nakeva! It was a fun episode to do and one of the few I've actually listened to multiple times (despite my voice being on it)! Loved your input and answers and overall a great time to catch up! And yes, I owe a LOT of people meals, which is why I don't bring that up so often ;)

Thanks again for the kind words! Hopefully we can do Part 2 soon! Cheers!

Patrick, thank you for taking time to chat with me and make it a podcast! That was an interesting interview and excellent question/answer flow. Yes, YOU and I are photographers. I see your work and know you have talent. I forget you worked in the chef business (you need to make me a meal *hint*), but I think your background plays into your photo creativity.

I hope your fans and readers enjoy the conversation. I like the podcast series and believe its a great way to highlight cool people. Cheers to running business, making photos and sharing through social media!
